The faculty of the Department of Business Computer Information Systems believes that there is a need in industry and government for systems analysts who have a thorough understanding of both a functional area of business and computer-based information systems.

 Please Note: A 2.7 GPA is required for graduation. A 2.7 overall GPA and a C or better in all previous BCIS courses is required to enroll in an upper level BCIS course. The College of Business Administration also requires either a degree plan or an advising clearance form to be on file in the Dean's office (Room 123 of COBA Building) to enroll in upper level COBA courses.

Degree Requirements

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science with a major in Business Computer Information Systems include:

  1. Completion of 127 semester hours of pre-professional and professional course work as outlined.  

  2. Graduation with this BS degree requires a minimum GPA of 2.7 on each of the following:
         • all course work attempted at UNT;
         • all course work attempted in the program; and
         • all advanced Business Computer Information Systems course work.

Academic Standards
  1. It is recommended that students selecting the BS degree with a Major in Business Computer Information Systems meet at least one of the following standards:
         a. Be in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class.
         b. Attain a minimum score of 920 reentered on the SAT I or 20 on ACT.

  2. It is required that students selecting the BS degree with a Major in Business Computer Information Systems maintain at least a 2.7 GPA in all courses completed at UNT and, if applicable, have a transfer GPA of at least 2.7.

  3. A grade of C or better is required in all previously taken BCIS or CSCI courses for enrollment in any senior-level BCIS course.

  4. Academic requirement for graduation with a professional field in BCIS include:
         a. a minimum GPA of 2.7 in all course work at UNT; and
         b. a minimum GPA of 2.7 in advanced hours (3000- and 4000-level courses) attempted in the professional field and supporting courses.

  5. A grade of C or better is required in each BCIS course taken in the professional field, supporting BCIS courses or career track.

Course Titles: One Line Description
  1. The Department will enforce the following standards: A student must have a UNT GPA of 2.7 and a C or better in all previous BCIS courses to enroll in any BCIS course whose number sequence is greater than 3610. A student must have a C or better in all BCIS 3000 and 4000 level courses. See the BCIS undergraduate advisor if you do not meet both of these requirements.

  2. Formal degree plans are completed and maintained by the COBA Advising Office in BA123. Degree plan changes and/or substitutions are the responsibility of each student with approval by the BCIS department; BCIS Advising will assist you in completing the change forms for filing with COBA Advising.

  3. Any student not meeting stated course requirements MUST petition for placement.

  4. BCIS 4690 is a capstone course, and must be taken within the last twelve hours before graduation or in the last semester before graduation.
